Activism

 

Join other patients, advocates, and health-care professionals in the fight to keep medical cannabis legal and to improve conditions for patients and caregivers. Please note that we do not condone any abusive or unlawful behavior.

 

There are plentiful options for demonstrating your support of The Compassionate Use Act of 1996 and safe access to medicine for patients and caregivers. At the Farmacy Organic Medicine, we are aware that you do not always have the time or may not feel comfortable to publicly show support. So, we've developed 5 Levels of Activism that easily advises a range of supporters from the most timid to the most involved. Choose the level that is the most comfortable and convenient for your lifestyle.

 

Level 1

 

Donating to organizations like Americans for Safe Access (ASA) or the National Origination for the Reformation of Marijuana Laws (NORML) is the simplest first step you can take. Donations can be made anonymously, online, over-the-phone, or by snail-mail:

As of July 18, 2005 the City of West Hollywood passed an ordinance that enacted medical cannabis dispensary guidelines. Please join us by giving thanks to our local officials for their compassion and bravery.

You can inform your community about the vital need for medical cannabis with direct examples of your experiences as an advocate, patient, or caregiver. Read and distribute materials to help educate yourself and your peers about the benefits of medical cannabis and the urgent need for safe, legal access to this medicine. Some excellent resources to get you started are:

www.NORML.org Since 1970, The National Organization for the Reformation of Marijuana Laws "has provided a voice in the public policy debate for those Americans who oppose marijuana prohibition and favor an end to the practice of arresting marijuana smokers."

 

www.safeaccessnow.org Americans for Safe Access (ASA) is a national coalition working for safe, legal access to medical cannabis. ASA provides activist and legal trainings, an archive of medical information, and media support for court cases.

 

Volunteer for the Association of Patient Advocates (APA) which is dedicated to training, assisting, and empowering community members to aggressively lobby and seek the proper healthcare access they need, while working to create a community of healthcare advocates. Joining any non-profit is a voluntary affair where you dictate your own level of involvement. Signing up for a newsletter, attending meetings or seminars, and participating in community events are common activities for new medical cannabis activists. www.CANORML.org has a calendar of medical cannabis events spanning the state of California.
